Here’s a reason to consider Long Beach, the Port of Long Beach Academy is offering a Global Logistics curriculum at Cabrillo High School. This visionary curriculum opens a new pathway to careers in international trade for young students in the city. What an easy way for the port to fill a need.

The four-year academy is conducted in partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District. global-logistics-academy-logoCalled “linked learning,” the school brings together college prep academics, demanding technical education and work-based training opportunities that prepare students for success in college and giving them skills for the future.

Students will get a chance to learn how the port operates, understand its impact locally and around the world, and hear from guest speakers with first-hand knowledge of the global logistics industry.

In addition to workshops, career planning and portfolio development, students will take core courses in the areas of information technology, global logistics, accounting and international finance, and virtual enterprise.cabrillo-high-school-small

For students who want to pursue a career in global logistics, both Long Beach City College and Cal State Long Beach also have programs, so Cabrillo graduates may continue their education locally.

“To see what the Port of Long Beach is doing now in terms of offering a pathway to future work, it’s just overwhelming,” said John Meyer, president of the LBUSD Board of Education.
